It occurred to me that it's now only Corky left...

[Not counting ND Smart who didn't play tubs on any of the studio albums but appears on the posthumous Woodstock album and therefore the opening two tracks on the The Road Goes... - Mountain Live album]

Steve Knight departed a few years ago and we all know about Felix...

Back in the time, my younger brother and his 14 year old mates used to come around to our house at lunchtime from school and play my records (I was at sixth form college so out all day)

They used to get Flowers of Evil and play the live second side. But the highlight for them was to get a pile of coins, place them on a speaker, crank the volume up to 11 and play the feedback bit (we all know that bit) and bet how long it would take for the pile of coins to vibrate off the speaker!

I only found this out years later!

The other thing about this album I recall was scrounging a large cardboard advertising version of the cover, which was about 4 feet square, from Our Price Records, when I happened to be there when they were taking down the display.

I had that on my bedroom wall for years!

i didn't know about drug abuse when i was a brat in the 60s, but i learnt soon enough in my formative years, in the 70s. we have talked about this before. sigh. the guys comin back from vietnam were treated like such shit, honestly

Feeling sorry for my niece who graduated last summer (teaching degree) and should have started with her first class today. Last night the government announced the closing of all schools in England until Feb 15th (ish), so she starts her career trying to teach a class she doesn't know, remotely. Don't yet know how her school is going about it - (Zoom or other application, setting work online?) but it's far from ideal.

My first experience of this was when we lived in a small suburb outside Charlottesville, Virginia in the 60's. The older brother of a friend came back from the war and everyone was happy, then suddenly he wasn't around and nobody talked about him.

Over the years I pieced together the story, which was that he had come back addicted to smack and was unable to get hold of a regular supply in a small town, and was deeply ashamed and unable to ask for help, so he shot himself.

On happier notes, Mountain are a fine and severely underrated band, given their quality and influence.
