"The Rock" is the second instrumental here.

The Rock, another fine interlude with some attitude courtesy of Keith.

When the strings come in on Love...the volume will go up! So glad I’m not in an apartment and my neighbor lives in Nevada this time of year.
This is not the year to think about what we don’t have.
It is the year we should be grateful for what we do have.

Not to be an apologist, but here I think all the sexual bravado is just that - empty threats from a frustrated teenager wracked by unrequited love/lust.

These are meant to be thoughts of the guy who only comes out when he drinks his gin.

some is, some aint. ya know i tend to take rock lyrics and rock stories with a grain of salt.

i do know the diff between the... hmmm. trope. the pose. the vent. and reality.

i've dealt with both. typically, lyrics aint nuthin compared to reality.

Let's commend Townshend on his prescience in forecasting the career of Dwayne Johnson in 1973.

agreed. i won't go off on how many of my friends were raped.

i was lucky.

Or even how many women you talk to today who have been abused in some way by men - sexual or physically.

Hell, there's two rape scenes in Once Upon a Time in America!

Appalling

Straw Dogs (Susan George) aways comes to mind

Despicable

Indeed. And in terms of lyrics I think Townshend has form (not the best choice of words) on this issue.

Elsewhere he does alarm me - 'Zelda screams not to touch her/but someday someone will fuck her' is probably the worst. No idea what that song is about.

Who played the piano?
The house that Clete’s musician friend had told him about was a sun-faded pink art deco place stuck back in a cove where a desiccated shrimp boat lay on its side in a slough overgrown with vines and palm and persimmon trees.
