The Tourists and Titus Groan...

Postby C » 10 Nov 2020, 13:10

Firstly I played the very splendid eponymous Titus Groan album today - the first time in a long time.

A jazz-tinged, medieval-dabbling and really quite eclectic progressive rock outfit.

I recall burning a copy for my dear friend Slider. I recall his response to this very day: 'it's too robust for me mate'

Thing is what does that old cloth-eared sod know...?

Anyway, the purpose of the thread - what have Titus Groan and The Tourists got in common?

No Googling!

oooof!

You did a copy for me too C. and I really liked it.

So without Googling the answer here are some guesses because I don't know the answer.

a. They both did numbers recorded by Dusty Springfield.
b. They both have the same drummer, bassist, guitarist, singer, female singer, producer, fill in A.N. Other
c. You were at the recording of both of them C.
d. They both produced records on vinyl.
e. Dave Stewart in both groups or Annie Lennox.

I know it, what do I win? (bugger, Yves was faster!)

Incidentally, there are 8 acts in my vinyl colleciton between the two (Toad, Jukka Tolonen, Tom Tom Club, Ton Steine Scherben, Toots & the Maytals, Torch Song, David Torn and Peter Tosh)

And I like Titus Groan a lot and I'm perfectly indifferent to the Tourists.

But nobody has said he was the drummer in both bands. Therefore, I claim my £5.

No, it is Stewart Copeland. He was drummer on the last Curved Air albums of the 1970s, Midnight Wire and Airborne, which unfortunately, were quite poor. He also married Curved Air vocalist, Sonja Kristina. And then he joined The Police.

Apologies. You’re absolutely right.

It’s funny, I had a picture in my mind of the members of CA sat on some grass, with Andy Summers in the group.

Curved Air and Roxy Music/Frank Zappa.

Curved Air and the bogus Fleetwood Mac/Stretch (Why Did You Do It?).

Spring and Dire Straits
