I have Laurel Canyon on the planner, but didn’t bother with the Crosby doc.

You can have too much of a good thing.

Drugs, guns, gaol vs a bunch of wimps in cheesecloth shirts singing about their ladies?

It’s no contest down our way!

Fair enough, but I feel like I know enough about Crosby to invest that much time.

He’s great, but, no.

Edit: set it to record after all. 1/12 Hrs once you take out the ads.

Anyone else watch this? Should still be up on Catch Up if you didn't

Came across as being a bit of a sad case who's burnt every bridge he
ever crossed in life.

Those pictures of him from around the time of his mid-80s gaoling
were absolutely shocking.

I watched a near 3 hour doc on CSNY (and what each of them were doing in between their comings and goings together) last night on Amazon.
It was good
I am not sure I could do another 90 minutes of just The Cros so soon..
I'll watch it in a couple of weeks
The Complete U2 Mp3 set now available in the usual place, should you want one.

All Sat night

Fela Kuti on BBC

Pink Floyd - Delicate Sound on Sky.Arts

Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets on Sky Arts

Very keen to see the latter (assume is the Roundhouse gig the live album was recorded at) as had TX to see him in Dublin in April and that was one of the few - perhaps even the only - show(s) he didn't reschedule.

I’ve got Delicate Sound (which I love in all its 80s glory), on The Later Years box, but I shall definitely take the Mason, which I have seen on YouTube.

Cheers, though.

I think the advantage of watching Mason on Sky is that it should be in HD (if not UHD/4K quality)

As Nick M and S of S was the gig of the 10 or so cancellations I most wanted to see, watching will
be a bit of a bittersweet experience for me. Looking forward to it nonetheless.

The Fela Kuti sounds quite good, too.

This is really helpful - thanks

I was going to say don't forget BBC4 - there was something on last night that I missed (I realised later in the evening) but I can't recall what it was!

So Sam, keep up mate!

'Twas jazz last night - I recorded the Miles Davis Birth of the Cool doc that was on, it's available on catchup if that was the programme.

Floyd stuff last Night seemed a bit off - too fast?
Apparently -as reported by people trying to play along - it was all a bit sharp, both Thunder and Secrets.

I thought it sounded off and got rapidly bored of the Mullett-fest of DSoT (Props to Guy Pratt the only male band member without a daft Barnet). Turgid.

SFoS was great though . Gary Kemp has gone up in my estimation... which isn’t saying a lot admittedly.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

SFoS. Where to start? This dressing gown and slippers plod was and is, almost a criminal act towards the original release. They all were having so much fun destroying the original album I almost felt sorry for them. Led by a drummer who doesn't want to disturb the neighbours and accompanied by the dullest band in history. All that was missing was James Last.
If you honestly found anything enjoyable from this turgid dirge for fucks sake don't put the original recording on because it will probably sound too busy for you.
For them that can , put the original on and pray you can erase the memory of psychedelia presented as light entertainment from your brain.

I'd like them to show the Faust doc they did a few years back.

Zappi with a cement mixer I recall

New doc on John Belushi on Sky Arts free-to-air on Fri night (He sneaks in here by virtue of being half of the Blues Brothers).

Apparently much more sensitive and less scandal-driven than earlier efforts as the film is built around previously unreleased interviews with
his widow recorded not long after his death.

Otherwise a bit thin this week - mainly repeats. Worth checking listings on the day

Enjoying the NM SofS Roundhouse show with a tinge of sadness that I had to miss and, what with COVID meaning gigs are unlikely to take place for god knows how much longer, wlll now almost certainly now never get to see them in the flesh

 It obviously pays to be less emotionally invested in these things.

I thought the NMSFOS version of Astronomy Domine was miles better than the original but I accept this will probably not be a popular opinion.

As we're talking about NMsSFOS, I'm enjoying Pratt and Kemp's podcasts (Rockonteurs. Really good. Who knew David Coverdale was such a sweetheart?

Finished the Crosby doc. Didn't know whether I wanted to give him a cuddle or give him a punch. Still, the music was marvellous.
