Gary Peacock has passed (confirmed)

Postby Six String » 05 Sep 2020, 20:17

From Jack DeJohnette’s twitter post. I don’t have a link and I’m not a twitter user so..... but someone on a jazz thread posted the announcement and I trust Jack to be on the money. He probably doesn’t mean much to most here but he was a superb bass player known for many things including his work with Keith Jarrett and DeJohnette in the Standards Trio. One of those musicians who listened to his bandmates carefully and responded with superb playing.

Edit: Gary peacock’s family has confirmed now.

He lived a long and full life.

That's very sad

A great player - any of the Jarrett Trio stuff will evidence that!

Of the umpteen I have, I am going to play this now:

 Back to my source on the Hoffman board and there seems to be a thought that his death is a hoax. I saw posts from Dave Holland and a few other musicians who I felt should really know but maybe they were mislead too. I haven’t seen any notice in the NYT or other paper. Peacock’s wiki page was edited to include a death for September 5, 2020. So I’ll put a question mark on the thread title until better documentation is available.

I just seen this on a French site and Wiki has it listed too.

Just delving into the Jarrett/Dejohnette/Peacock trios this morning to enjoy his sensuous bass playing.
RIP.

Now wiki has been edited again to remove the death date and Jack DeJohnette deleted his twitter post regarding the death. Crazy.

Hope this helps!

A drunk thug who went berserk at a family barbecue and smashed up a car and threatened to burn down a house after a joke back-fired has been jailed.

Sozzled Gary Peacock, 29, flew into a rage when another party-goer knocked his hat off his head for a prank.

Peacock pushed over a chair and punched the man before hurling a glass bottle at him which missed but smashed a woman in the head.
Things that a fella can't forget...
