Most boring and forgettable Britpop band?

Postby GoogaMooga » 28 Aug 2020, 04:51

I nominate:

Heavy Stereo, 18 Wheeler, Fluffy, The Longpigs, Ultrasound. And the bands in your other post.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

God, there were so many. Just like the Merseybeat bandwagon, Britpop inflicted Shed 7, Sleeper, Bluetones, Echobelly on us, as well as many I have forgotten :D The thread is working! To be honest, quite liked Ultrasound (and Gene).

I got rid of Bluetones. And I think I also ditched Ocean Colour Scene.

I find time for Longpigs. They spawned Richard Hawley, a fine solo artist and the British equivalent of Roy Orbison.

Menswear had a good handful of great singles.

Northern Uproar were pretty dire
Geneva are the most boring band I have ever sat through a live set by, though Salad ran them close. At least they had Marijne to entertain the eye.

I can’t remember their name, but each album was more boring than the one before.

Oasis

I have too agree, but, because they started on such a high, the decline wasn't felt as bad, at least not by me. I've got the run, and find them all worthwhile to some extent, although the first two are head and shoulders above the rest.

Bluetones had a few good songs hamstrung by an appalling singer. Longpigs had a few good songs and a strong vocalist, hamstrung by appalling artwork.

What's the issue with Mark Morris?
I think he's great
He mostly plays solo acoustic these days - it's a good show.

Truly only the first one is a good album.
The second was the one that had most of the big hits on it

The third one is one of the worst albums ever made.
It does actually pick up a little bit from there, but there are rarely more than one or two good songs on any of the subsequent albums.
They did have a knack for picking the correct songs to release as singles though, and there are no Oasis singles from after Be Here Now that I do not like.

Love the era, like and saw most of the decent bands live. Only one who has no records in my collection is Oasis. Lumpy and boring. They get my vote for this thread.

They may be 'boring' - that is subjective
But they are certainly not 'forgettable' - they were the headline act of the whole shebang, along with Blur.

Noooooo!

I love the debut album and Pig Valentine is a terrific little record. They're not up there with the greats or anything but they were a lot of fun at the time.

The Longpigs don't deserve being called boring and forgettable either.
Bugger off.
