Jewish is a bit of a slog.
The house that Clete’s musician friend had told him about was a sun-faded pink art deco place stuck back in a cove where a desiccated shrimp boat lay on its side in a slough overgrown with vines and palm and persimmon trees.

Indeed - Spirit certainly were not a one groove pony

They could write a decent tune!

.

They certainly could! And appeared quite regularly on American FM radio stations in my youth.

Why, then, did they trouble chart compilers in the USA and UK (and indeed elsewhere) virtually not at all, as opposed to collectives of far less obvious talent. I mean, I LOVE Alice Cooper and Uriah Heep, but were they by far the more commercial acts over Spirit???

It is indeed a cruel world.

Worth quoting Hunter S Thompson, of whom I have reading a lot lately:

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.

There's also a negative side."
