I would join ypu but Brighton will be on the box giving Man Utd a pasting at the same time. Actually as I recall the first Dead album I bought ** sings to self - That's why if you please I am on my bended knees **

I'm driving back from San Diego on Tuesday. If I arrive before 1PM (that's 9PM over there), I'll join you. This is the first album that you've done for a sync listen that I actually own in weeks.

In 1977 I traded my friend Led Zeppelin Presence for this album!

This is an interesting photo

Keith Godchaux and Pigpen in the same photo - my memory is fading did they play together in 1971?

I know that Keith Godchaux is not on Skull & Roses but what about other live albums?

I didn't think they did as Keith was the replacement after Pigpen died

Matt?

Chris?

I stand to be corrected, but I think Pig basically stopped playing keyboards when Keith joined, if not before - but he continued to sing with them until shortly before his death (including Europe '72, as Matt says).

Pig played organ, Keith played piano on that tour.

Correct

Wiki:

Ron "Pigpen" McKernan – organ, harmonica, vocals
Keith Godchaux – piano

Great opener! One of the songs of this era that frustrated so many (even Robert Hunter, the co-writer) by not ever gracing a studio album.
