Re: Prog Synch Listen: Allman Brothers, Friday 5th June @ 9pm [UK]
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooof!!!!!!!!!!
i'm gonna tell the story again.
you KNOW i'm gonna tell the story again.
what.
there could be one person around here who's never heard it. it's possible.
nahhhh.
p.s. so reap and i had gotten in some ridiculously stupid fight. i no longer recall what it was about. it was that stupid. this was back when he still drove to an office downtown to work. that particular morning, i was fucquin furious. over what, no one knows.
he calls me. tells me the allmans were comin to nashville, an hour north of us. (smoke still comin outta my ears.) he sez he scored tickets. (a lil less smoke.) he asks me if tenth row would be okay. (smoke dissipating rapidly.) i'm like, er... yep. okay.
a pause. so then he sez, "so front row and center would be better?"
tricksy bastard, mwhahaha.
i caught a drumstick at the end of the show.
this very tour.

Ha first time I saw the Allman Brothers (saw Dickey Betts show turn into the reunion that's another story) a bunch of us hoped in a car to the show, it was GA at Rutgers Univ. Arena. Somehow we ended up front row and then our friend disappeared with some girl and we all ended up waiting a
few hours for him.
Then again everytime I saw them there was a story.
Allmans at the Beacon always a mess.

mwhaha.
i've seen em a bunch, but the best night was the one i already described.
they were a live band, and they were meant to be seen live. well, you know.
the only other notable story that flies into my brain wasn't the allmans. it was leon russell and gregg allman at tipitina's. i was in college, so it was the first half of the 80s. i honestly can't remember whether the two of em did anything resembling a tour together or whether they were just in town for jazz fest. jazz festers often hit tip's, too.
but our lad gregg was not exactly clean and sober at this point. he was so trashed when he first came out on stage that i knew there would be trouble. he was swayin on his bench and blithering some damn thing instead of singing.
first, they cut off his mic. a very short time later, a gaggle of crew guys came out and carried him right off the stage, with him still swayin on his bench, mwhaha.
leon, however, was all game and put on a fantastic show for a few more hours. the crowd was pleased and downright merry.
p.s. gearin up. that is what i am doing.

Good afternoon/evening!
I raise my glass to wish you good health and happiness, and as a toast to absent friends.
From the first sweet sharp note the strutting starts. What a band.
