The Songs of Bacharach/David

Postby Mike Boom » 19 Mar 2020, 14:29

What the world needs now ?
What better way to relax than a bit of Burt and Hals pop perfections. There are certainly a lot to choose from - do you go for the hits or the slightly more obscure hidden gems ?

Your 10 best of Burt ?

Have to give this some thought. But, cliche or no, Dionne Warwick does them best. a 'greatest hits' collection concentrating on the early years is essential.

I love all the hits, but don’t really know any album cuts.

Saying that, This Guy’s In Love With You, was my signature song when I was mooning over girls in my early teens.

I would also put in a shot for the Bacharach/Costello album, Painted From Memory.

The Look Of Love - Dusty Springfield
True Love Never Runs Smooth - Gene Pitney
Close To You - The Carpenters
24 Hours from Tulsa - Gene Pitney
The Windows of the World - Dionne Warwick
The April Fools - Dionne Warwick
Baby Its You - The Shirelles
Walk On By - Dionne Warwick
I Say A Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin
Theres Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandy Shaw

Very tough to keep it to 10, leaving out a of classics. Its truly astonishing how many great songs these guys wrote. Listening to these also reminds me just how wonderful Gene Pitney was. But yeah, agree with Hatz, Dionne Warwick is sublime singing these.
