Stephen Malkmus rates LZ IV

from his Tweeter !

I revisited Zep 4 last night ( w/headphones in bed ) now I rank songs...

Misty mountain Hop
black dog
Stairway
Evermore
4 stixx
Levee
California
Rock n roll

:?
It is obviously wrong - but what should it be ?

Wow, pretty close to mine, actually - though I'd put California a lot higher, and probably 4 Stix at the bottom.

MMH
California
Black Dog
Evermore
Levee
Stairway
Rock n Roll
Sticks

...maybe?

Stairway and R&R might switch places or temporary usurp Levee depending on my mood and how sick of them I am.

He's not too far off, really. Got the right #1 at least.

MMH
Evermore
California
Black Dog

"Stairway" on top, no question. If it's overplayed to the point of making you sick, it must be great.

Then:

"Black Dog"
"Rock and Roll"

"Going to California"
"Battle of Evermore"
"When the Levee Breaks"

"Misty Mountain Hop"

"Four Sticks"

In other words, the proper order is the one that a fifteen-year-old stoner girl at my high school would likely have come up with.

Levee
Stairway
black dog
Evermore
Misty mountain Hop
California
4 sticks
Rock n roll

but what an album. It's basically listing tracks I rate from 10/10 to 8/10
