Qobuz v Tidal v Spotify and £5,000 per metre speaker cable

I've just got into this modern streaming technology and a mate of mine was talking to me about Tidal

I was around his house yesterday and the Hi Res version he had did sound excellent.
[He has got excellent equipment though - he recently paid £6,000 for 5 metres of speaker cable!].

I read a What Hifi? review comparing Tidal to Spotify and on 'sound quality' Tidal won 'hands down'

Anybody got it?

Yes, I did go into a hi fi shop just recently to ask about all this, perhaps to think about it for sometime in the future and the guy there did mention about tidal being the best sound quality. He did explain why although for there life of me I can't remember what he said was the reason, something about them having access to better quality source material I think it was.

£6000 for 5 metres of cable - puts my £100 a metre to shame, admittedly it was nearly 10 years ago, so with price increases it might be a little closer.

When I'm decrepit and have to sell all my records etc. and go into a home perhaps that'll be the right time for streaming, maybe before?

I haven’t got the ears for that kind of expense and I certainly couldn’t justify it to my wife.

We have Spotify, but I don’t use it that often. I just want to concentrate on my collection from now on.

Spotify does sound good to my old ears and it is easy to access.

It saves me having to go upstairs where my collection is housed.

If I’m listening to Spotify it’s on my phone or my work computer so I don’t think it would be worth it to me to worry about fidelity for streaming. Yet.

Yes, this is the thing - I have decent equipment - re: receivers and hi-fi set up so it might be worth it

Pick an album available on Tidal and Spotify.
Compare the sound.
Done.

The fact that the autor called it 'wire' instead of 'cable' turned me off staright away.

It's like an electrician calling them 'bulbs' and not 'lamps'

Or a chippy calling it 'sandpaper' instead of 'glasspaper'

Thing is I am one of the few that still plays albums.

Tidal talks about 'tracks' all the time....

You can play complete albums on both Tidal and Qobuz. You just need the discipline to stick with what you are playing and not to switch around to whatever else happens to pop into your head at the time.

Qobuz do a free trial and they have reduced the price of their monthly subscription. What would you be streaming through, C?

A friend uses Qobuz and sometimes pops round and uses his phone to connect with my Arcam thing ( the same one you have I think ). It does sound better than Spotify but if you want to get maximum quality ( ie better than CD ) you need to invest a few thousand in a proper streamer.

Yes I appreciate that Mike . [I probably need to upgrade my ears too!]

But I was just looking for a better sound for just a few extra quid a month.

I'll look into both Tidal and Qobuz
