I remember hearing this around my brother's house on his birthday April 1975 - it had just been released

It blew me away. I need to ask him how he originally heard it - I think through our mate Bulmer...

It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

The flautist hated his solo and refused to have his name on the album.
It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

I’m pretty sure about the flautist ... I do not have any other info.
