My top ten LPs for the years 1960 - 1994

Postby Matt Wilson » 02 Jan 2020, 18:20

Feel like a challenge? List your top ten albums for the second half of the '60s in order - year by year. Some people do crossword puzzles or brain teasers, I think of my fave records. It's a lot harder than you think. 20 would've been a lot easier than 10. Of course, if I made these lists next week, some of my choices would be different.

1965
Rubber Soul - Beatles
Highway 61 Revisited - Dylan
Bringing it All Back Home - Dylan
Today - Beach Boys
Mr Tambourine Man - Byrds
A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
Help - Beatles
My Generation - Who
For Your Love - Yardbirds
Out of Our Heads - Stones

1966
Blonde on Blonde - Dylan
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
Revolver - Beatles
Face to Face - Kinks
If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears - Mamas & Papas
Buffalo Springfield
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme - Simon & Garfunkel
Aftermath - Stones
Freak Out - Mothers of Invention
Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton - John Mayall

1967
The Doors
Forever Changes -Love
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Beatles
Surrealistic Pillow - Airplane
Velvet Underground & Nico
Are You Experienced - Jimi Hendrix Experience
Disraeli Gears - Cream
Something Else - Kinks
Sell Out - Who
Younger Than Yesterday - Byrds

1968
White Album - Beatles
Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society
Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix Experience
Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
Notorious Byrd Bros
Cheap Thrills - Big Brother & The Holding Co.
We're Only in it for the Money - Mothers of Invention
Bookends - Simon & Garfunkel
Beggars Banquet - Stones
Sailor - Steve Miller Band

1969
Abbey Road - Beatles
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Tommy - Who
Arthur - Kinks
Let it Bleed - Stones
Led Zeppelin II
Velvet Underground
Happy Trails - Quicksilver Messenger Service
Live Dead - Grateful Dead
Stand! - Sly & The Family Stone

Oh, I thought it was going to be ten albums TOTAL. That would have been more interesting (no offense).

It's too tough to do in order of preference and I'll do one year at a time, I agree with Charlie O by the way about ten total being tougher.

1965

Begin Here ~ The Zombies
Highway 61 Revisited - Dylan
My Generation ~ The Who
Do you Believe in Magic ~ The Lovin' Spoonful
It Ain't Me Babe ~ The Turtles
The Magnificent Moodies ~ Moodie Blues
Help ~ The Beatles
The Paul Butterfield's Blues Band ~ The Paul Butterfield's Blues Band
December's Children ~ The Rolling Stones
For Your Love ~ The Yardbirds
If love could've saved you, you would've lived forever.

You're kidding me. Anyone knows that It's a Love Thing is better than Inside Out.

I didn't think many would, Les. I could probably get more action from this thread on the Hoffman site. Yet people complain that not enough threads are started here, so every once in a while I try to do my part.

If you go to wiki and type in a certain year and then put "in music," you can scroll down and virtually everything released that year will be there according to its release date.

Yep, many of the LPs you guys are choosing could just as easily have made my lists. It's the discipline needed to narrow it down to only ten which is tough.

Indeed and 1970 and 1971 were even better years for me
