Iron Maiden Cover Artwork

Postby C » 19 Nov 2019, 20:16

I hate it.

I really want to buy a couple or three of their albums - perhaps Number of the Beast and a couple of others but I can't get past my prejudice.

I am playing Powerslave as I type an album I really enjoy on Sp***fy because the cover is palatable.

There are so many hideous IM covers

Am I missing something?

I just don't get it or is there nothing to get?

Just like we hope people will say about prog rock: "It may not be to my taste, but it's definitely well done, I'll give it that." I kinda like it. It's very cartoonishly awesome, and the colors look good. Number of the Beast is the best-looking one, to my eyes. But either way, it's certainly executed nicely.

Surely they're the 80's (and beyond) equivalent of those prog covers - Yes and suchlike.

I was 16 when Iron Maiden started making records.
At that age I loved the covers
They are for 16 year old boys

I was 17 when this one came out
It is my favourite
I like seeing Tories getting shanked.

Dreadful, like a teenager trying to replicate drawings in his comics.

I'm not so sure.

I can't think of many that I would consider grotesque or repulsive.

Toe Fat - possibly.

Yes. Surely not?

Get ‘The Book of Souls’.

There’s an eighteen minute prog metal masterpiece-‘Empire of the Clouds’.
It’s brilliant best thing they’ve done this century.

Thank you - I have no problem with the music

It's just the hideous covers!

I think Iron Maiden cover art suits the music: all a bit silly, really. As was the NWOBHM movement, I guess.

Iron Maiden are one of the biggest acts in the world - have been for 35 years
I think they transcended NWOBHM, which was mostly comprised of spotty youths with zero talent
Bad News was a documentary

I watched the Number of the Beast video earlier and thought it was all a bad joke, rather than bad news.

I know they’re still a huge band, but definitely not in my world. A rock parody, I’d say.

They are a band I try every now and then but I always come away with the feeling that everything just sounds the same. I like their cover art though, fun and cartoonish in a Hammer Horror kind of way. In fact it's the cover art that always brings me back to playing them; I want to like the album as much as I like the cover. It's the same with ELP's Brain Salad Surgery, another one I play because I'm inspired to by the cover art and then come away disappointed time after time.

They were the template (ok, maybe Judas Priest were slightly ahead of them)
The parodies were the hanger-on bands in their wake.
