There's also CTA and at least one CCR album plus one or two others!
Virtually impossible for me to comfortably get down to five

Without naming names, I notice that not everyone who says they voted actually did. Please, if you comment on your top five - vote for them!

I've never been a fan of Abbey Road either , weak material and horrible moog synth sounds. Give me Rubber Soul or A Hard Day's Night anyday.

Agreed! The two you mention are also my personal faves.

iI found five easily (ee above post if you care), but several others might have made a longer cut with different albums -- It's a Beautiful Day's second, for instance, or The Who Sell Out. But that isn't the game.

Re: It was 50 Years ago Today
I voted for:
Neil - EKTIN
King Crimson - Court
CTA
Fleetwood Mac - Then Play On
Jethro Tull - Stand Up
Had they been available, Trout Mask Replica and Instant Replay (Monkees) would be in my 5. And on another day, Abbey Rd and Liege & Leaf may. make the list. Then there’s Green River and Bayou Country. And...
What a year.

There certainly was some seminally robust music made in this year
1969 to 1974
The start - it never got any better.
Did it?

Actually C. I think you could go two or three years either side of those dates and then you would probably be right, although it was our music wasn’t it and not the music of the youngsters of today. I often wonder if they will ever look back on their music as fondly.

There seems little doubt that people who were 16 - 25 in the 80s look back on their music fondly.

Music still played a big part in the lives of youngsters and even the lives of the baby boomers at that time, my comment was aimed at the youngsters of today who have so many other entertainment distractions let alone music. Not sure I could see a website like this being created in 30 odd years honouring/vilifying or even just talking or arguing about today’s music.

Well we can start here.
What is today's music?
Beyonce Knowles has just released a new album, to some critical acclaim and with lots of talk about the issues she raises on her records. A mate of mine texted me to say how brilliant it was (my hard copy will arrive tomorrow).
Beyonce's first solo single was released 20 years ago. Is she today's music?
My fave, Taylor Swift, reached a whole new audience (including members of this board) with her two lockdown releases already regarded as classics, but she's been around for 15 years.
I woukd certainly expect people to be dicussing them in 30 years time, but are they today's music?

The truth is that I’m pretty sure I won’t be around to know if today’s music, or whatever you want to call it, will still be talked about in 30 years’ time, perhaps you will and then you’ll know. What I do know is that my children do not have the same passion for the music of ‘today’ that those of us of a similar age on this board still have for the music of their day.
Clearly you might well be right and you obviously believe it to be so - one day you might well know for sure.

Re: It was 50 Years ago Today
It looks like I indeed did not... but what a year!!!
Not the most important, but the 5 that meant most to me when I grew up (I was 10 in 1969)
- Abbey Road (the first album I owned)
- Then Play On
- Unhalfbricking
- Tommy
- King Crimson
bubbling under:
Zep, Mayall, CTA, CSN, ABB, QMS, Jethro Tull, the other Fairports, Burritos, Ayers, Dusty. Hot Rats, Joe Cocker, Volunteers, Santana, IABD, etc. etc....
