Okay, they never really went away but I lost interest when they "lost" their bluesy format and Peter Green .. etc.

Fair point but Rumours ain't bad

But agreed, I'll have Oh Well, Man of the World or Green Manalishi over it!

.

I still have plenty of time for Tusk.

Likewise

I expect you've heard this of Nicks' phenomenal live vocals

I kept waiting for the violin to come in

.

 yes that is true. at one point in the 90's their live show played Larks with some violin-like synths and Trey Gunn(bass player) had some funky effects that worked that part. The new lineup while not that 70's way is still very interesting.

.

Maybe my appreciation for Belew is because he kept showing up live with my favorite bands
Frank Zappa 10/24/77 Spectrum
Bowie 09/27/78 Spectrum
GaGa 07/22/80 Club 57 (warm-up for Fripp's League of Gentlemen)
Talking Heads 08/27/80 Central Park
King Crimson 03/06/82 Alexander Hall

I can't be having Adrian Belew with a microphone in front of him.
Not that I mind his guitar playing.
Any Crimson records without him, I'm ok with
And I rather like the instrumentals from that era too.

But regarding the opening post - any VDDG after Pawn Hearts, I am not at home to.
Nor any of Hammill's solo records, all of which are poor, in my book.
The Complete Elton John Mp3 set now available in the usual place, should you want one.

Future Games, Bare Trees, Kiln House and Mystery To Me - all post-Green and pre-Buckingham/Nicks - are my most-listened-to FM albums these days. Sadly overlooked. Except for Penguin and Heroes Are Hard To Find, I enjoy all of the albums through Tusk; Mirage is where they lose me (though I like "Hold Me").

Back to the thread subject, though... The Dismemberment Plan followed a promising debut with two of the best albums of the turn of the millennium, The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified and Emergency & I. Fourth album Change was a disappointment and then they broke up. High hopes for their reunion record Uncanny Valley were dashed by the music itself, and they wisely broke up again.

I don;t think I have ever been more disappointed than I was when I first played Fool's Mate
It looks like a classic VDGG record
Sounds like... well fuck knows *what* it sounds like
But it ain;t what I want to listen to,

I don;t utterly hate Nadir's Big Chance but I don;t like it much either
I used to have Over too - never cared for it

Fair enough John. As my old grandmother used to say: 'it wouldn't be for us to all be the same'.

For me, the next two are much stronger than Fool's Mate - Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night and The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage and my personal favourites

In fact the next three are no slouches either In Camera, Nadir's Big Chance and Over

Each to her/his own
