Vic Anesini, who did the mastering for the latest Phil Spector releases, is very, very good. I truly like everything else I've heard that was mastered by him.

These guys were the best band of all time (IMHO). And they're not even my number one band. Combining musical and vocal brilliance adding quality lyrics makes this band hard to beat.

At TOTAL TIME: 36:37 only, this might not seem much, but this is THE original label overview of Atlantic! From 1968... !! One of SOUL MUSIC'S BIG 3... !!

Motown is the greatest independent record label and it takes a 3 CD package to cover their output in the past 60 years.

1954 -- A NEW MUSICAL FORCE ARRIVES
The complete Sun Sessions was the first CD of Elvis Presley at Sun. Covers the birth of rockabilly in 1954 and 1955. This is the Rosetta Stone of rock'n'roll.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

An essential comp taken from the box set, this 17-track Specialty sampler CD is a nice distillation of the box set for one of the greatest independent labels ever. Home of the nuclear explosion that was Little Richard.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

Stax was a lot of things, and this 1989 comp is still the beast. Above all else, Stax was the uncut funk. Everything gon' be funky! And everything was.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

Rock Instrumental Classics vol.5 is the best single CD comp of surf rock on the market. Surf rock is the most exciting instrumental genre of all, and this generous 18 tracker contains at least a dozen stone cold classics, more than is found on any other comp. From Pipeline to Lonely Surfer, they are all there. Bill Inglot remastered this one for Rhino.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

"We Got Latin Soul" is an original Charly comp and still the best for Latin Boogaloo. It was my gateway drug to my fave Latin genre of all, that short-lived New York phenomenon known as Boogaloo, ca. 1966-1970. Jala Jala Boogaloo (you understand very well...)

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

If you get only one reggae album, don't get Marley's "Legend". Get this baby instead, the OST of "The Harder They Come". This album is the CLASSIC 1972 soundtrack that introduced Reggae to the world with Toots & the Maytals, Desmond Dekker & more. Great film, too.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

Easy listening is such a vast area to collect, there is no definitive overview. So I'll just recommend my favorite, Ray Conniff's masterwork, "Speak to Me of Love", with the centerpiece, "Beyond the Sea" (a perennial favorite). It doesn't get any smoother or more joyous than that. Sublime chorus work.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

Bread and Circuses... This album is the definitive statement of the Tropicalia movement in Brazil. Rolling Stone magazine in Brazil has voted this album no.2 in the 100 Best Brazilian albums of all-time.

MUSIC STARTER PACK (2019):

Very hard to find a comprehensive country comp on CD, they always run into several volumes, and Columbia Country Classics is no exception. Volume 4, "The Nashville Sound", looks to me like the best bet, the one to get.
