I have respect for Paul Weller

Postby Walk In My Shadow » 06 Sep 2019, 13:22

Not my exact cup of tea but you got to give it to the man for reinventing himself a couple of times.

The Jam (not my fave from that era)

Style Council (started out a bit wishy-washy but had some strong songs)

Solo (didn't follow his whole career but the start was promising)

See? lukewarm about the artist but respect still.

Yeah, I’m a big fan, actually. I’ve got all of The Jam, TSC and most of his solo albums.

Seen him live a few times as well...always great.

Funnily enough, of all his albums, the one I return to the most is his eponymous solo debut. Most excellent.

I liked his early solo career, loved every bit of the style council, and think the Jam are very good.
But there is no doubt that he wrote some of the greatest songs ever.

What would Yomp say?

To me, Weller is some kind of latter-day godfather of mod. The Modfather, the guv'nor. Stanley Road is the best solo album. Everything by Jam and Style Council is very necessary. I'd say I like Style Council best.
