I think it was rather the vogue at the time, wasn't it? In a way, the solo album was yet another justification for punk. Record labels indulging their cash cows...

You have to bear in mind that things were going wrong with the bands relationship with each other.

It just spurred Waters on, though. By The Final Cut, the game was up.

Listening to a PF solo album makes me wonder if part of their greatness is that collective disdain and horror for modern life that can't really be fully articulated by any single member, if only because you find yourself thinking, "This one should have been on the album," or, "Wonder how much better it'd have been with Rodge on it..." etc.

You’re not wrong. Waters was a tyrant by the time of The Wall.

The friendship was fractured irreconcilably here.

If the solo records had been crap, then maybe some justification.

But they were all good in their own way.
