I think it would be good to bring people together.
Folk is narrow.
Every member could contribute to top vocals. Imagine the potential ties....
Billie Holiday v Frank Sinatra
Noddy Holder v Tim Buckley
Etc.

I now can imagine Darkness Fish, joels and algroth submit their favorite Diamanda Galas-lists...
How little you know me. I can do much worse than that.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Re: Maart's next task....
Yeah, and unfortunately same will apply for me if it’s folk.
Not saying that vocalists is the best / only possible subject, I just don’t think Cups that are limited by genre are the way forward as they are too exclusive / restrictive on potential participants, but there’s certainly no perfect solution!
The aim should be to make it interesting to as broad a range of members as possible. Just my opinion.

Agreed my learned friend
Agreed
Folk was just a suggestion - I am surprised it has been endorsed by many.
I am open to anything (almost)
Shetland Scottish Folk 1955-1965 would be my preferred option though...

Folk or vocal cup both sound good to me. Although vocal cup will be all over the place not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Re: Maart's next task....
Folk is better than vocal on that regards as it is narrower in scope. I'm just not sure how much it would appeal broadly to this community.
Any other suggestions? 60s Cup? Funk/Soul? Psych? Ambient? Blues?

Re: Maart's next task....
I'd do any of those but ambient. But I don't think any of those have a wider appeal than folk. Why not say folk/ethnic/acoustic? Most everyone should be able to find something in there...

Re: Maart's next task....
"Vocals" is a great idea, IMO, because choosing songs for the merits of the singer, specifically, means a different approach in submitting and in voting.
I'm all for it, instead of yet another reductive genre or era.

Sounds like a poll is needed. Let democracy sort it out. Also, might attract more potential contestants who haven't bothered to look at this thread yet.
