My favourite version of this is by Sergio Mendes. Magnificently moody and as funky as hell. I first came across it on a series of comps I used to buy in Camden in about 1990. Still sounds great to me today.

The original is the best. The genius of that song is the 12th fret harmonic on that two-note riff. It unique and very subtle yet it grabs your ears straight away.
I first heard that song on the White Room! Channels 4's live music show, they used to play one archive clip a week and once it was the BS on Smothers Brothers.
