Belgium!

Postby never/ever » 31 May 2019, 11:08

Recently I saw how our good friend Yves purchased a Zjef Vanuytsel-CD in his most recent CD-haul. Made me think of some of the finest examples of Belgium's rich music scene (not sure whether Zjef belongs there but he is a Belgian). Let's pay tribute to this uncelebrated musical nation!

Some of my favorites:

Comics, frites, and chocolate for me... oh, and Simenon.

Surely you got some Rocco Granata or Eddy Wally tucked away in your collection, Googs?

Nothing - I draw a blank. All I know is Vaya Con Dios and they are not very good.

It's Irish Coffee for me.

The actual CD of their album was given to me by our dear old friend Yves personably at a London JU many years ago.

I love it.

ooooof!

Agreed, Belgium needs more love. Here are three of my favorite bands from there:

Univers Zéro - "Jack the Ripper"

Front 242 - "Special Forces"

Aqsak Maboul - "A Modern Lesson (Bo Diddley)"

Zjef was a typical 60's troubadour (kleinkunstenaar) who put his music career on hold when he became an architect. He was quite successfull in both careers, made 6 LP's and designed several popular buiduings.
Sadly cancer took him away in 2015.

Joel beat me to the F242, but I might be tempted to post more if the demand is there. Or not.

Too obvious? Too clammy?

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Beer, frites and mayo, and Eddy Merckx, the greatest sportsman that ever drew breath. More than enough justification for the existence of Belgium.

Okay, in that case I've got Django and Brel.
