Move On Up is of course the first one that comes to mind.

Around the same time, 1974, we got this lovely slice of life-affirming funk, Ripple: "You Were Right on Time"

"When the desert comes, people will be sad; just as Cannery Row was sad when all the pilchards were caught and canned and eaten." - John Steinbeck

I'm not a religious person. But I sure do like the music!

For secular music, there's nobody who cheers me up like Fats.

Perhaps it should have come under the"Very guilty pleasures" thread ;) Listen, a man can't listen to Pere Ubu EVERY day ! I was close to adding "Walking on sunshine" by Kate in a and the Waves. In fact, I was more than close, I have done !

God, I have ALWAYS loved this song. It never seems to get the praise it deserves.

Wylie goes to Memphis with a wad of record company money in his arse pocket, throws the kitchen sink at it and pulls it off in spades.

Yes! 100%.

I have so many songs that make me feel like this, though I struggled to try and compare "songs that excite me" with "songs that lift me up" - do you know what I mean? Pretty Vacant excites me, though doesn't "uplift me"

Anyway - a few:

You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

Interesting choices, loving the Boo Radleys track, wonderful band.

This always gets me going. I will always remember them doing this at the Nelson Mandela concert at Wembley Stadium.
