Now I am culling BIG TIME

Postby GoogaMooga » 01 May 2019, 22:41

Yes, I've reached the point where I have to cull as many as 1,000 CDs, to make room for the foundation collection from Tokyo, which is now in storage. And also to make room for future purchases of choice quality stuff. Most of the petrol station CDs are gone, but now I am also having a look at Disky and Goldies label releases, I have to be tough... Also, multiple comps with lots of overlap, how many times do I need to hear "Jolene?"

Too much to list here, but to give you an idea of what I am culling...

Zucchero
Laura Pausini
decades comps
v.a. comps
The Cure
Billy Ray Cyrus (yes, Count, "Achy Breaky Heart" is a sucky song)
Taylor Swift
Placido Domingo
Andrea Bocelli
Luciano Pavarotti
Peter Cetera
Ray Stevens
The Fall
Dio
Johnny Madsen

I guess this needs explaining.

During my second sojourn in Tokyo (1988 - 1993), I began collecting CDs (1990). So I built the foundation there, which I consider the most important part. Incl. many Japanese editions, like the "London" Rolling Stones CDs.

Well, as long as you don’t cull Sledgehammer!
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Culling Me Softly

Postby Sneelock » 02 May 2019, 21:49

He needs room for Nippon Editions
He hasn’t got room for my words
He’s culling me softly from his songs
Culling me softly from his songs
Ending my shelf-life in his world
Culling me softly
From his songs. :(

Well, I am at 91 CD's culled, at present. I think when I hit the first hundred I'll take them to Accord. Don't want to inundate them or they might give me less in trade.

I even nixed a Beach Boys comp, a crazy Disky comp. There was nothing exclusive on it, so out it goes.

How exactly are you cataloguing your CDs, Googs? It certainly ain't by any alphabet...
