Talk about Richard Hawley

I heard that Richard Hawley had a slot on Radio 4 being interviewed about his approach and attitude to music. I avoided it, as he admitted he is surly twat and I don't care enough for him as a person to listen to some relentless Yorkshire misery. I am conscious though that I accept everything he does, more or less, as great and him being a miserable Yorkshire bastard will always warm me to him.

what's your view? I forgive him a SHIT load..cos the music he makes I find thrilling.

He’s a smashing chap. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in pubs, apres gigs.
Dry, witty and a little surly but eminently likeable.

My nephew and his mate met him after one gig and they wound up on his tour bus. They said he was a genial host, interested to talk about the music they were making rather than talking about himself. My nephew was chuffed that RH gave him a shot on the guitar that Nick Cave had given him.
They spent that long drinking a talking that they missed their last bus and train so when they left RH put his hand in his pocket and insisted they took money to get a taxi home.
Top man.

Always comes across as likably dry in the interviews I've read with him and on the couple of occasions I've caught him live.

Doesn't seem to have had his head turned by the music biz and has obvious affection for the Sheffield streets in which he grew up and still lives.

That's a great story.

He's a miserable Northern bastard. What's not to like?

Every time I've seen him he close across as a mildly amusing, self deprecating guy.

Anyone who can make music as beautiful as this though has earnt an eternal free pass from me .

I always imagine Sinatra doing this in his later years.

He's bland.

To be fair, it all sounds the same.
