Am I missing some Dylan?

Postby Walk In My Shadow » 22 Apr 2019, 18:26

This from the Mojo site:

COVER STORY: BOB DYLAN Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn, T Bone Burnett and the raggle-taggle survivors of the Rolling Thunder Revue remember one of rock’s most legendary tours, a wild tale of mass harmony and marital breakdown now memorialised on a 14-CD box set. Plus Dylan’s live adventures through the ages – all roads lead to Hyde Park!

What 14 CD box?

It isn't out yet.

It's the next Bootleg Series box set.

I can understand that. But even Dylan.com doesn't mention it.

The Hoffmen speculate

We know 5 shows were recorded by mobile trucks: Worcester, Cambridge, Boston (both sets) and Montreal (the 24-track tapes from which BS5 was assembled).

It's believed there are board tapes for the entirety of the 1975 tour, but even if that's mostly accurate I won't be surprised to learn if there are occasional gaps, as on the 1966 Tour Recordings.

I wonder if this set would include tour rehearsals?

I'm not even sure it's been officially announced yet. Those boxes usually come out at the end of the year.

From the dylan isis webpage

We can now confirm that the long-awaited Rolling Thunder 14-disc set will feature shows from 1975 and that material from 1976 is being talked about for release at a later date. “Bob Dylan: The Rolling Thunder Revue – The 1975 Live Recordings” will be presented in a ‘box’ (as opposed to a “Bootleg Series” style release), but the discs won’t be housed in simple card sleeves as was the case with “The 1966 Live Recordings”. This release will, of course, complement the two-hour 22-minute film, “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese”.

Don't believe its part of the Bootleg series, expect another installment of that end of year as per usual for the Christmas market.

I pre-order this new set on amazon spain about a month back, order still valid but waiting to see if the price stays the same, €60. Delivery date says June 17th.

Official announcement of this set by Sony expected this week.

Dylan site was suggesting $110 price tag earlier. My amazon spain pre-order was at €60.16. How long do you reckon before that pre-order price is cancelled? I live in hope.

14 CDs...?!

Far too much music

It would take years to familiarise oneself with the material!

Never seen it but no doubt footage from it will be used as part of the Netflix film.

^^^ I found a high quality double DVD set of R & C at a record fair a few years ago, but I just couldn't make myself sit through it.

There's some good footage, musical and otherwise, but long passages just spin their wheels. It really should have been edited down to something half as long (the running time of the version I have is something like four hours).

Got halfway through the NPR stream yesterday, loved the rehearsals. Will listen to the rest end of the week. Very much looking forward to this.
