Greece

Alright, let's do the Greeks. Who do you collect?

1. Mikis Theodorakis. So many comps, but do they have to include "Zorba" on every single one? All my Mikis is from thrift, so I know my Zorba by now.
2. Demis Roussos. So many comps, but the original albums are supposed to be really good, too - if you can find them. Love the kaftan image, makes him slimmer no matter how fat.
3. Nana Mouskouri. Geeky listening. But don't tell the cool kids that you collect her. The glasses she could have dropped easily, but they became her trademark. Her breakthrough song, "The White Rose of Athens", is really good, made me a convert.
4. Aphrodite's Child. "Rain and Tears" is the big one, a portent of things to come. "666" is the hold-out album, not for the superstitious!

Afraid that's all I've got, all I know.

I like the more traditional stuff, and I've got a whole mess of LPs from Greece.

On a more rock-related note, one of the most "valuable" things in my collection is the self-titled debut from Greek beat band The Olympians.

It's pretty good!

Thanks, Count. Oh, I forgot, I've also got Vangelis and Yanni.

And also some V.A. bouzouki stuff, don't remember the names.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I can't bear see my country dragged into the mud by all the chancers that are mentioned in this thread.
You want to know the real Greece?

Well, I stand by my choices, except perhaps Yanni. Not sure he'd survive a cull.

I'd probably be sick to death of that rebetika/laiko stuff, too, if I lived there. Folks in other country have the advantage of that kind of music not being shoved at us since birth.

Correct weight. Kids who grew up in Greece, or even in traditional Greek families in other countries, are very often fed up with their parents'traditional (as in pre-80s) music. But the fact remains that there was some glorious music written and recorded.
