Yeah, that's a pretty good one.

I actually did this last night, but when I went to post it I got a Forbidden message and when I went back a page my work was gone. I have no idea what I wrote that triggered the spam filter, or whatever it was.

I'll try again. I'm using the U.S. albums for the Oldham era.

The Rolling Stones (sometimes referred to as England's Newest Hit Makers) - "Not Fade Away", just beating "Route 66". I like this album a lot as an album, but most of the individual cuts aren't individually all that special.

12 x 5 - "Empty Heart", just beating out "2120 South Michigan Avenue" and "It's All Over Now".

The Rolling Stones, Now! - "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love"

Out Of Our Heads - here's where it gets difficult. "Play With Fire" and "The Spider And The Fly" are both amazing, "Mercy Mercy" is one of their most satisfying early covers, "I'm All Right" and "One More Try" are pet favorites (albeit throwaways), and of course there's "Satisfaction"... but I've gotta pick "The Last Time".

December's Children (And Everybody's) - Side 1 is strong, Side 2 is all killer/no filler. I'll pick the live "I'm Movin' On", a storming hard rock performance of a hard country classic, with an audience as exciting as they are excited.

Aftermath - jeez. "Paint It Black"? "Lady Jane"? "Think"? "I Am Waiting"? For today, it's "Think".

Between The Buttons - my favorite Stones album, unless Exile is. Although there are several other songs as good or better, "All Sold Out" is my pet sound.

Flowers - my opportunity to make it up to "Ruby Tuesday" or "Backstreet Girl" or "Lady Jane"... but it's gotta be "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?", their most unhinged expression to date.

Their Satanic Majesties Request - it's always been "Citadel", but in recent years "The Lantern" has been creeping up from behind...

Beggars Banquet - "Street Fighting Man", I think.

Let It Bleed - "Gimmie Shelter", I suppose, but it could be "Live With Me".

Sticky Fingers - "Moonlight Mile"

Exile On Main St - my favorite Stones album, unless Buttons is. Could be any of at least a half-dozen selections, but today it's "Torn And Frayed". (I think last night it was "Cas*ino Boogie", but without the asterisk - that must be what tripped the spam filter!)

Goats Head Soup - holy moly, has there ever been such an artistic fall from grace? "Silver Train", and that wouldn't have been even a second-stringer on any of their previous albums.

It's Only Rock 'N Roll - the inexplicably much-maligned title track - I love it.

Black And Blue - "Fool To Cry", I guess.

Some Girls - "Shattered", with an Honorable Mention to "Before They Make Me Run".

Emotional Rescue - looking at the tracklisting, I only remember three of these songs, none of which I ever want to hear again; I won't bother reacquainting myself with the rest. Pass.

Tattoo You - "Start Me Up" - Stones by numbers, to be sure, but it works, and works out.

And that, ironically, is where I'll stop.

What strikes me seeing this list is that they didn't make that many studio albums despite their long career.

Agree?

They put out an awful lot of live albums, and I think the US album run has more titles, but yes, you are right.
