An everlasting monument to AOR: the Toto triptych

Postby GoogaMooga » 03 Mar 2019, 02:38

I know, I know, AOR is anathema to some BCBers, but in the name of inclusiveness, let's salute the triptych of songs recorded by the AOR gods Toto. I won't post youtube vids here, you all know which three I am talking about, there has been no escaping them for the past forty years. Can you build a career on just three hits? Many have with less.

Africa (1982, #1 US)
Rosanna (1982, #2 US)
Hold the Line (1978, #5 US)

But of course, Toto had more to offer: I Won't Hold You Back, Make Believe, enough to fill a 2CD comp, enough to fill a good setlist. Which brings me back to the triptych, where to place them in the set? Three for closing and encores, nah...Spread them out, climax three times. Should have caught the surviving members back in 2010, now it's just the records, but what records!

Climax three times. Nothing sillier than holding off on obvious hit songs till the encore.

I reckon they're garbage but God help me I accidentally heard a song if theirs I actually like.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
