Do you really need to release a new album in order to play the hits in Albuquerque again?

Endless Wire was a dud.

I can't believe it came out 13 years ago!

:o

Lies! It was, like, five years ago.

Oh. It wasn't.

:(

Anyway, we're missing the best bit of the story:

The two longtime bandmates also hit a bit of a snag over the new material, which Townshend describes as a mixture of “dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and cliched Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang.” When he finished them late last year, he sent them off to everyone in his orbit and received an amazing response from everyone besides the man tasked with singing them. “Just silence from Roger,” says Townshend. “I had to bully him to respond and then it wasn’t the response I wanted. He just blathered for a while and in the end I really stamped my foot and said, ‘Roger, I don’t care if you really like this stuff. You have to sing it. You’ll like it in 10 years time.’”

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A “hits”” tour would have done much better., and the orchestral aspect (“A Legal Matter” with French horns!) might appeal to the same folks who are buying those horrid London Symphony projects. Sonce touring is where the money is, these days especially, I think Pete just wants to get some new songs in front of an audience.

I could never listen to an album with that sleeve

The one thing they do agree on is that their label’s request that they capitalize on their status as the ultimate “dad rock” band by finishing the album in time for Father’s Day in June is simply asinine.

I predict they do the tour and never finish the album.

If it happens to be similar to the Wilco/Roger album of a few years ago I'll buy it.

I assume it'll be about like Endless Wire, which I didn't care for, but then the live shows will be pretty great except Roger will have problems with his voice.

Says me, now. I don't expect it to remotely match up to their classic output but I'll still be interested to hear it.

Can you even begin to imagine how utterly shit the album is going to be?

They might finally release a half decent album after all these years.

Pete promises there will be some "cliche who type songs that begin with a guitar that goes yanga-jang." Then his press office removes the word "cliche" from the quote.

Seeing the buses with the Who graphic on them. I have to admit, it looks pretty cool.
