Jack Davis' bold Christmas ad for Columbia Records 1970

Postby GoogaMooga » 14 Jan 2019, 22:23

All nude! Shocking! Unsigned by Jack Davis! Wonder why? Anyway, only in the 70s, man! Would that ad fly today?

I'm guessing he wanted to keep it separate from his work for MAD and Rankin-Bass/animation work. It's also possible that he didn't sign his commercial ad work the way he would his comics work.

Also, I had no idea the Westchester-NYC "Bee Line" logo was his! I've seen it my whole life and never knew but now knowing that it's his work I can see the stylistic similarities.

Columbia got pretty desperate in their quest to be perceived as hip.
