voted for REM, Clash, Hendrix, Sabbath (Though neither of the first two are my favs by the bands, by a long shot)....There are others that are "OK"...

I rarely play them nowadays (and most often in alternative or live versions); but still find them worthwhile.

Same here. I was surprised to learn that Greil Marcus devoted a whole book to them.

Interesting interview, but unless I missed it, neither mentions the Doors.

It doesn't. Christgau can't stand the Doors, and I'm surprised that Marcus wrote a book about them. Turns out it's been out for years and I never heard of it. That doesn't bode well...
