Barry Gibb's ability to make a kick ass record ca. THAT turn of the decade is a hell of a wonderful thing. Rather "mega" sounding high gloss analog magic.

He was smart to take on this project - as a collective, the Bee Gees were rather instant pariahs by then.

Streisand is an easy target, but...also, maybe the last of "Yeah, I can sing some shit" mainstream female vocals that pre-dates the altogether spazzier likes of Whitney, Mariah, etc.

He could write and arrange for her voice, and she seemed to really connect with the material.

It's a "diamond" record, song, etc. in my book.

Wow, I haven't heard that one in AGES! I'm pretty sure either my sister or my dad had a copy of 'Guilty' so it got a lot of air time at our house when I was a kid and I've got pretty fond memories of that period of my life - 10 years old, going on 11 - the world seemed wide open to me. I guess what I'm saying is I've got a lot of sentimental attachment to it. Not quite enough to say "LOVE LOVE LOVE IT", but pretty close.
If you've got nothing to do, don't do it here.

"Guilty" is a track I kind of like.

This track I do not like one iota.
"Excuse my dust."
"In the back room, Under the stars, And your ceiling is my floor"
"It put me back in my place and made me realize, yes I'm just a cunt in a clown suit."

Good stuff. I once read somewhere that one reason Babs didn't get a nose job was because she was afraid it would affect her singing voice.

and that’s close enough to my own thoughts to save me the effort

A bit treacly but it's Barry.

It certainly isn’t a record that allows you to feel even the slightest bit cool for listening to it. But Barry Gibb had spent a decade grooming me to someday love a Barbara Streisand record by the time this one came out.

I can’t help it. The melody is so inventive (especially the melodic phrasing - Gibb’s superpower), and lyrically the words, “it’s a right I defend, over and over again” just hit the bell for me every. single. time.

The arrangement should bother me, but it is just barely on the right side of the RSO pleasure-center line for me. I actually love the guitar work.

A stone-cold classic. God help us all.

I find it overblown and schmaltzy. Sure it's a well crafted song, but it's not something I'd ever want to voluntarily hear. If it had been written by Manilow I suspect it wouldn't be getting half the praise.

There are a handful of Manilow people on here, I’m sure!

A decent song brilliantly rendered by Babs.
