RIP Pete Shelley

I'm hoping this is a hoax, but sadly there's a lot of stuff on Twitter and the likes

One of the more striking things about the last time I saw him play (just two years back) was just how thrilled he seemed to still be doing it with Diggle - came out for the encore with a bottle of champagne, grinning so infectiously, arm around his old friend, brimming with infectious "in the moment" joy..

Yeah, I'd heard nothing but positive reports about recent gigs - how they seemed rejuvenated, tearing through those wonderful old tunes. I was hoping to see them next year.

He had one hell of a voice and he could write one hell of a song.

Yeah, really special songs.

I know I've said it elsewhere, but (for better or worse) those particular songs were the match that lit my own creative torch.

What a horror day... just heard Joe Joffo (Bag Of Marbles) and the Dynamite Kid died too.

As far as singles punk goes, the Buzzcocks were terrific. Shelley really made that into an art. Really sad he passed away.

Oh no. This is not a good day.

Spent the day with him a few years ago before he moved to Estonia (my ex is/was very good friends with his wife), nice guy, sad news.

Truly shocked by the news of his passing.

The Buzzcocks were one of the very few punk rock groups that made music of lasting quality.

The only punk band I really liked. And his little synth pop era was fun too. RIP.
