I agree with that to some extent. It’s pretty simple, really. If the idea of the first demo of these songs is appealing to you, then you’ll be happy. I don’t expect I’ll listen to them that much, but I’m glad to have nice Copies. I’ve already listened to them (in this incarnation) two or three times. To be sure, I’ll give the studio stuff much more attention because that’s much more interesting to me.

They are neck-and-neck for me. Sometimes the visceral rush of the 45 is the best thing in the world.

Regarding "Across the Universe" - I love the "sped-up" Past Masters version with the animal sounds. It would slot in nice with those Side Two tracks.

Some of the demos sound really great! Blackbird in particular stood out to me and the version of Piggies with acoustic picking sounds beautiful, perhaps better than the overly mannered final version.

It might be a stretch to call anything here essential but lots of it is very pleasurable to listen to.

I wonder why they bundled these demos in with the remaster, and not the outtakes...

Every biography of the Beatles, every article about The White Album, makes mention of the Beatles going round to George’s place and strapping on the acoustics after getting back from India. As such these demos have attained a semi-legendary status. Saying this comes with the famous Esher Demos is probably more marketable than, this comes with Some Outtakes”.

Plus if you’re not a hardcore music nut, rough acoustic versions of fairly complete songs but be a more rewarding listen then various overdubs or instrumental takes or broken down takes etc.

"We've got to sell this shit" is an undeniable/massive piece of the whole endeavor.

That one and only one Beatles record contains a near full set of demos (whatever their merits...) is a hook they can't really sleep on.

Plus, why NOT put the real kick ass stuff only on the most expensive variant?

I bought the box (something I rarely do).
