Ogdens nut gone(you know the rest)

Postby frimley_greener » 25 Oct 2018, 19:04

50th Anniversary reissue from the Small Faces Store. Reluctant to come over all Hoffman like, but his is an absolutely delightful pressing, and should be heard by any fan of the lads.Top top notch in all respects.

Appears to be the 2012 issue plus a DVD of their Colour Me Pop show (which was supposed to be on the 2012 release, but wasn't).

Just received mine from Amazon UK.

Pluses -

Red, white, and blue heavyweight vinyl.
Nice, sturdy box
Full-colo(u)r book - 12" x 12"
$53.00 delivered to my house.

Minuses -

Nothing new.
No circular sleeves. There are three regular LP jackets with the circular can printed on the cover. No surprise here.

Haven't even listened to the LPs yet. Will report back.
But somehow when you smile, I can brave bad weather.

The Art Of The Album 180-gram half-speed mastered black vinyl LP version (BMGAA07LP) features the original stereo version of the album and includes both a 6-page booklet plus 12” x 12” art card.
This is my purchase....just the single vinyl stereo remaster.

VERY pleased with the mono! This half-speed mastering adds a lot of depth to the bass and really sounds live. I almost forgot how singularly brilliant Kenny Jones is on this album. The stereo rarities LP has some monstrous drum tracks - I'll be digging Ogdens' in stereo tomorrow morning.

The reissue credits list the same research and mastering folks as the 2012 CD collection, but clearly states:

50th anniversary edition newly remastered for all formats at Soundmastering Ltd. Lacquers cut at half-speed at Alchemy Mastering using a Neumann VMS 80 mastering lathe

And the 72(!) page book has an extensive interview with the mastering team. All new liner notes, too. This is a pretty essential purchase if you want to get the vinyl goods in one fell swoop. And never knew I needed "Every Little Bit Hurts" in my life.

Great song! Writ by Ed Cobb, who also gave us "Dirty Water", "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" (especially if they know they're gonna be around a lot of dirty water), "Tainted Love", and other trash classics.

It makes me miss the Small Faces all the more.

Yes....That sums up what I find so enjoyable about this remaster.....the drums are thunderous yet not overblown....I would go as far as to say I have never heard better reproduced percussion in the rock idiom....Moon,Bonham et al...

Kenney Jones writes about the remastering in his new book. A Kenney signed print of the album cover came with the initial CD release from the SF website.
