Major Lance's daughter is the current mayor of Atlanta!

And yes, G, it's just sweet soul. Low Rider is just a name to put on comps.

That seems to be a different thing though.

Well, I write about the two strands of Latin soul - Boogaloo and Lowrider

Don't know if you mess with Spotify, G, but here's a killer playlist of the East Side Story soul bootleg comp series. It's this kind of stuff. Googa and his pigeonholing ways are attempting to lead you astray.

And here's an interesting article about the scene.

L.A. Weekly link

...East Side Story, the classic, unpolished 12-volume series of lowrider oldies. Originally released in the late 1970s and early '80s, East Side Story represents a distinctive vein of horn-laden R&B and soul music, mostly from the '60s — think The Four Tops or The Delfonics.

translation: nothing to do with Latin music at all

On the rare occasions I DJ these days, I still play my 45s of the Flirtations and R Dean Taylor. Mighty tunes.

I also really like Betty Everett’s ‘Getting Mighty Crowded’. And isn’t Al Wilson’s ‘The Snake’ some kind of classic of the genre? Which gives me an excuse to share this, filmed in a shopping centre in Bolton in 2014.

Nobody will ever admit to liking The Snake within the scene from what I understand. Same thing with that Joe 90 Theme.

I love the Joe 90 Theme almost as much as life itself, but I can't imagine people dancing to it

I have loads of compilations. Rule of thumb is generally that if they are released by Ace or Kent then they will have a couple of excellent tracks minimum. The Talcum Soul series was excellent and worth collecting all 5...or was there a sixth? But, as a primer, the recent 3 disc Move On Up set was actually really up there.

The Snake became massively popular because it’s on the Big Lebowski soundtrack.
