A friend forwarded me this a few days back -
http://www.adioslounge.com/wwnhd-what-would-nicky-hopkins-do-part-1/
Only the first five parts have been executed so far, but...it is exhaustive in the best possible way. It seems rich to say "the man who brought the piano into the guitar era", but...didn't he?

Oh man, that is exhaustive (and exhausting)... but fabulous article, that'll keep me occupiedfor a while when I get the chance to listen to the youtube clips

He enlightened so many tracks that he played on - Stones, Quicksilver, Jeff Beck Group, Lennon, etc. Possibly my fave rock pianist from that era.

Possibly?
I'd say he was probably peerless.
I managed to track down his solo album, which turned out to be quite disappointing. Oh well!
EDIT: this one:

In terms of guys who played on a lot of sessions and was a star in his own right. Yeah, he was peerless.

But "The tin man was a dreamer" was not exactly 4 star material.

I know it has its fans, but...speaking as someone who'd had it "bigged up" to me by folks I generally trusted, my reaction upon finally hearing it was "THAT'S his fucking VOICE!?!?!"
God bless him - I know even Charlie Watts belittles this record in some big Rolling Stones book.

Re: Nicky Hopkins
He's a fabulous musician but also the epitome of "sideman".
As "ill-advised solo albums" go, The Tin Man Was A Dreamer is up there with Two Sides of the Moon.
