I love Latin music. Pick it up whenever I come across it in thrift, without blinking. Today I found two contemporary-looking CDs, by Ricky Castro and Fuz-ion, respectively. Spinning now is the Ricky Castro, and it has got to be a joke, I mean, all the hallmarks of classic merengue are there, but the whole thing has been sped up and sounds frantic and maddening! Ricky Castro has been bitten by the BPM bug and has made a mockery of merengue. Is this where Latin music is at today?

Apparently it's known as hardcore merengue. Ricky Castro rose to prominence in the 90s. Could you stomach a whole album's worth, though.

No. I turned it off after about a minute because I was laughing so hard.

Well, thanks for ruining my surprise pick in the merengue cup. I had a sneaking suspicion Moddie would vote it down for being pretentious, anyway.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I'm glad you did
, I can't stand pretentious merengue - I mean why use a golf club to whisk the egg white? For me it's unnecessary!
