3 albums from your peak year of each decade since the 1950s

Postby GoogaMooga » 13 Oct 2018, 01:25

We are discussing 1990 and 1995 among other things now, so I thought to celebrate each decade since the dawn of rock'n'roll. Choose your peak year in each decade and list three albums (or even singles, to give the 1950s an even break) that made that particular year be the peak:

1956

Tempting to go with 1954, the birth of rockabilly, but consider 1956:

50s - I’ll pass. There’s lots of jazz, folk, r&b, and pop that I like but I’m not completely familiar with it

60s - 1968
The Incredible String Band - The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter
Nico - The Marble Index
Peter Brotzmann - Machine Gun

70s - 1971
Comus - First Utterance
Harry Partch - Delusion of the Fury
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate

80s - 1986
Clock DVA - Buried Dreams
The Cure - Disintegration
Pauline Oliveros, Stuart Dempster & Panatois - Deep Listening

90s - 1994
Autechre - Amber
Current 93 - Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II
(I think I’ve rated at least two albums 5 stars for every year of the 90s on RYM but 1994 alone has 7)

00s - 2000
Coil - Music to Play in the Dark 2
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
The Cherry Blossoms - The Cherry Blossoms

10s - 2013
The Haxan Cloak - Excavation
Autechre - Exai
Pharmakon - Abandon

Well done, guys! As you can see, I conked out somewhere in the 00s, and certainly by the 10s I am completely lost.

I did consider River Deep, big Spector fan.
