Both Pulps and Yes.

Oasis and Blur close behind. It was a good year

A good list, but a little too narrow. I went for both Pulps and The Universal.

The year I gave up on guitar music, mostly because the Stone Roses imploded.

This was around the time I started getting into music - I was 11. So pretty much any Britpop toss on the list I would have had on a cassette, taped from a library CD.

'Common People' is one of the all-time great moments in British music.

Otherwise I still actively enjoy these:

2. Supergrass - Alright
3. Pulp - Sorted For E's And Wizz
4. Oasis - Some Might Say
8. Pulp - Common People
9. Blur - The Universal
11. Tricky. Black Steel
17. Radiohead - High And Dry
21. The Stone Roses - Ten Storey Love Song
23. Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
39. Beastie Boys - Root Down Ep
48. Radiohead - Lucky
49. Supergrass - Mansize Rooster

And these ones are fine heard now and again:

5. Foo Fighters - This Is Is A Call
7. Mcalmont & Butler - Yes
13. Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
14. Orbital - Times Fly
15. The Verve - History
16. Teenage Fanclub - Mellow Doubt
18. Ash - Girl From Mars
26. Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Llanfwrog Ep
29. Scarface - Hand Of The Dead Body
33. Ash - Kung Fu
35. Weezer - Buddy Holly
40. Pavement - Father To A Sister Of Thought

The rest I either don't know, don't care about one way or the other, or want to club to death with a hockey stick (seventy four... seventy five...)

I am a grump. I saw Pulp live in '95, bought Different Class, which I love, His and Hers, which I love but I've never liked Common People. Perhaps a bit like Bittersweet Symphony, songs by bands I like that is their biggest hit yet I can't stand them.

1. Yes
2. Sorted for E's and Whizz
3. This Is a call

Absolutely, I love that song. I remember bouncing around the floor of Wigan Pier nightclub to that on my 20th birthday, being a drunken danger to all and sundry. Pity they never really captured both energy and tune again.

Also deserving of Fishtastic praise:
Black Steel
Fake Plastic Trees
Where the Wild Roses Grow
A Girl Like You
Down By the Water

Not surprising that 'Wonderwall' hasn't got many votes, but I do like that song, as overblown and joyless as it is.

But since when did 'Alright' fall out of favour?
