Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Nominations

They will put in Nicks, Rundgren, RATM or Def Leppard, Janet Jackson and The Zombies...Yawn....Should be The Cure, Devo, Kraftwerk MC5 and Radiohead (Even if they do not give a toss about the institution)

And another year, another missed opportunity for the deserved induction of The Smiths and the awesome debacle the on stage "Reunion" would be...

In all conscience, good as some of those acts are, I could only vote for one in any contest with the words 'rock & roll' in its billing: the MC5.

I tend to vote on how groundbreaking, influential and lastly popularity, much less on popularity

Devo
John Prine
LL Cool J
Roxy Music
The Cure

Kraftwerk would be my next vote and probably should've voted for them instead of Devo, the Cure or Prine.

Neither Janet Jackson nor Stevie Nicks makes any sense to me. Am I sexist?

How long has this thing been going? About half of the acts in that list are very worthy nominees and should be in there already - for what it's worth.

Since 1986!

I think there's a 25 year window or something, though. Acts can't be nominated until 25 years after their formation.

It's a sad day if Kraftwerk have to rub shoulders with even the concept of that shower of shit.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I can't believe somebody here voted for Def Leppard.

Well, the likes of Devo, Kraftwerk, MC5, Radiohead and The Cure certainly belong, but the Hall will most likely put in the predictable lot of corporate chart toppers.

Edit: The Zombies and Roxy Music would also be good picks.

How come the Zombies aren't in yet? They could've been in decades ago.

Four should be shoo-ins: Zombies, Kraftwerk, Roxy, and Rufus

toss-up between LL Cool J and MC5 - LL Cool J has simply contibuted more good music in his particular genre, so he should be inducted.

One great album nor a good single album greatest hits collection comprise a stellar career.

Personally, I'd vote them into the sloopjohnc hall of fame, but that's because they check off all my boxes.

Objectively? Nah.

But then again, these are the same folks that nominate Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks and Janet Jackson, to anticipate your response.

The Zombies belong in more than anyone on the list because they scaled the highest musical heights of any of those acts.

How large their output was shouldn’t matter. The MC5 aren’t being nominated for their large catalogue. They are being nominated for their work over a two year period.

They are being nominated for one song. There are only fourteen people in the entire world who know anything they put out beyond that one song.

The fact that I’m not even sure if you mean “She’s Not There” or “Time of the Season” kind of shits on that theory.

EDIT: You meant the MC5. My bad.

There are R&B acts in there with only a great song or two to their name. The Zombies should've been in ages ago.

I think it’s great that they haven’t. It will be so much sweeter for those guys if it happens now.

The Zombies last act is really one of the great rock stories. Seeing these guys reunite in their 79s and finally get their due is really nice. Especially given how they still play like hungry kids.

I definitely hope the Hall doesn’t miss the chance to honor them while most are alive. Winning this year would be a perfect career-capper.

Do they even care? The politics of that place would put me off.
