It's OTT in a way earlier Lennon would never have dreamed of, but I love it.

It's awful. It has one of the sickliest productions I've ever heard and Lennon sounds like a dickie bow wearing cabaret singer.

..if he was playing The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club rather than Vegas. It's like the pound shop version of Chas n' Dave's "There Ain't No Pleasing You".

Ah, you know, he got shot, it was awful. I was 12 and hugely affected by it. And that song was played all the fucking time in the weeks that followed. It has ghosts, you know what I mean? It's powerful stuff.

I get that. I think his death casts a shadow on something like that and gives it a poignancy it doesn't really deserve but there you go.

All my choices are already covered, I think, except for:

Led Zep – Fool in the Rain

Bowie – Sound and Vision

Clash - Gates of the West

Perhaps, but with any Lennon song, I have to pick what I find to be the least offensive for me.

Not sure I get the distinction between 'best' and 'fave' (it's all subjective, isn't it?), or between record and song, anyway these are the ones that I like the most today

The Beatles: We Can Work It Out
The Stones: Tumbling Dice
Led Zep: Immigrant Song
The Doors: The Crystal Ship
Pet Shop Boys: pass
The Smiths: the blank spaces between tracks
David Bowie: Watch That Man
John Lennon: Mother
The Clash: Train In Vain
The Beach Boys: Good Vibrations
Nobody's ferpect.
