Bit disappointed to be honest.

Do we need six takes of a song with just guitar and bass?

£ 100+ is pretty steep for the 6 cd box.

Probably just the one disc version for me. But I've said that before on other Bootleg releases.

Rolling Stone story

Rumors of a Blood on the Tracks Bootleg Series have swirled for years, but the Dylan camp was reluctant to commit to it. “For a lot of years we’ve been trying to figure out how to do this,” says the source. “But it’s an unusual project because there’s just 12 songs, or 13 if you count ‘Spanish Is The Loving Tongue,’ and he’s trying to find his way into them. And there’s no outtakes from Minneapolis.”

They began to change their minds when they made digital copies of every bit of Blood on the Tracks material in the vaults for preservation purposes and listened back to the rough mixes. On the finished album, Ramone added in a ton of echo and sped up the tape by about three percent to sweeten the sound. “We thought it would be really interesting to see what the songs might sound like gently mixed in a way that brought out the closeness that we were hearing on these rough mixes,” says the source. “That made us think there was a whole other way of doing this and that there was something valuable to be done with this stuff. When you strip away the echo and run it at the right speed, there’s more of a verité sound. It’s sounds like you are in the room with Bob.”

Christ, November has The White Album box, this Dylan thing, the Lennon Imagine box, and Criterion is releasing the complete Bergman catalog on blu. Why can't they stagger these things throughout the year?

Im inclined to agree, but then its Blood on the Tracks.
The articles in the press are great though-Uncut have done a big piece, and it is great to hear all the background from the various un-Dylan sources that were there.

That is amazing.

I never know quite what to make of BotT. I think it's slightly overrated, but it's the last great album he made until 'time out of mind'. I prefer 'Planet Waves', 'Pat Garrett' and 'Self Portrait from his 70s oeuvre. 'The line 'She might be in Tangier' from 'if you see her' always makes me wince.

My order is in.

Both LPs have ten songs, but only one has no less than four versions of one called "Billy."

I love Pat Garrett too. I play it more than Blood on the Tracks. And sure there’re four songs named Billy but they’re all quite different, unlike the take variants on this new boxed set. They’re all “variations on a theme”, as is common for a film soundtrack.

Pat Garrett is Polly Harvey’s fave Dylan LP, I’ve read. And I interviewed Warren Ellis from the Dirty Three, he said it’s his favourite Dylan record too.

I agree. Probably makes no sense, but while I recognise that BOTT is a "greater" album, Pat Garrett is my favourite.I play it all the time.

Bought both Uncut and Mojo who obviously go large on this reissue. Go into detail about the tracks. Apparently Jagger was at the sessions and you hear him on tape making suggestions to Bob. I have the double vinyl on pre-order but the tracks they're previewing are making me sway towards going for the 6cd.

So many goddam reissues out for Christmas, i'm doing my best to ignore most, including The Beatles as have the White Album 4 times over already but Dylans one looks rather nice. I've managed to avoid going for the past two deluxe editions - ended up with the MP3's but this one looks very nice. Hmmmm? Resisting for now.
