Who had the best 1967 - albums, singles released - apart from The Beatles?

Velvets and Hendrix for sure, and then a toss-up. I went for the Bee Gees since they won't get a lot of votes, and they released what I think is the best of their 6,000 albums that year.

A little soul heavy - it wasn't an album medium yet, though there are a few that belong, obviously - and the Moodies have no business in the top ten - but it still shows (imo) the greatest year in recorded music history.

Counting both albums and singles released in '67, the clear winner is The Monkees.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Even if it's only a "bunt instead of a grand slam", Smiley Smile was an interesting failure, a perfect rolling around on the studio floor, stoner album. And we did get the grand slam this century, so...

That was painful, like choosing which limbs you have the most affection for and breaking off the others.

Went for Beach Boys, Monkees and Small Faces.

50th Anniversary edition came out in April. This 1968 has been hard on the credit card.

Yeah, I mean it's a bit like picking Hayley Mills when you've got Anita Pallenberg giving you the eye.

Leonard Cohen had the best year, clearly. You could make a claim for Phil Ochs or Miles Davis, too. From the list above, VU take it.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.
