Indeed.
Came across as a really decent man, played on some great albums & at some of my favourite gigs.

I think the latter point is more poignant than the first JJ - I saw him with Tull and Fairport umpteen times.
As for appearances on albums it was The Red & Gold/5 Seasons period of Fairport which wasn't great and he is a guest on Tull's mediocre Rock Island.
A great musician and undoubtedly an amicable man
RIP Maarts

I have always liked Red & Gold, and he was great with Fairport in those years. He knew he was going, and made an emotional final appearance at Cropredy just a few weeks ago. Nobody has a bad word for him. Top Bloke.Maart on the Ledge.
Bless the weather.......

A lovely fellow and a great musician. Met him briefly in '91 with Fairport. The quiet one in a rather loud group.

I'm extremely fond of the WAZ album Fully Chromatic & Steve Tilston & Maggie Boyle's All Under the Sun - they're the albums I was thinking of. Understand your point, it was an intimate WAZ gig that really sold him to me, he excelled on so many instruments & he was great at Fairport gigs.
A loss.

A good point re: WAZ! et alia - I was thinking more narrowly.
He is indeed a great loss - a very talented multi-instrumenatlist

Re: Maartin Allcock RIP
Speaking as someone who cant play an instrument to save my life, his ability to not only get a tune out of anything, but actually be able to master an instrument almost instantly was amazing.
Sacked from Fairport because he didn't turn up to rehearsals - because he didn't need to rehearse, proved to be a mistake that they never recovered from.
Re: the discussion of the Fairport albums he played on, Jewel In The Crown is the best Fairport album of the modern era, indeed the arguably the best since Rising For The Moon, and definitely since Bonny Bunch of Roses (not counting 1987's Heyday, which was recorded mainly in 1969).

Because our dog was seriously ill, I missed this years Cropredy. Missing Maarts farewell is something I regret immensely.
