Apart from Genesis Mk1 are manny proggers public school boys?
Floyd were all grammar/state school. Jon Anderson seems pretty working class.
And Alex James is notoriously posh. And Kula Shakur - all massively posh dad rock (but also a bit proggy maybe).
Seems to be a bit of a not necessarily needed extra stick to beat them with.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

And yet he's not.
Born in Boscombe, much of which is very run down & drug infested. Went to a local state primary school (OK, a church school) and then onto the grammar. Know several people who knew him as teenager, seems to have been a very normal lad.
If I could afford it, I'd have a farm and make my own cheese.

Re: Dad Rock v/s Prog Rock The showdown
I must confess I'm not clear on what Dad Rock is. It seems to mean the less inspired of the Britpop era (Cast, Ocean Colour Scene), but it also can mean other things. Are were using it to mean only British artists?
Prog was often bad, and I generally hate any attempts to do it in the modern day, but at its best, it was fantastic.

Well, I don't expect you will agree, but lots of Curved Air, Caravan, Camel (something about C's), Mike Oldfield, The Enid, and Nektar is crap. Cressida had a great sleeve or two but are indicative of how mediocre the genre could be. Stuff like Pendragon and Marillion I don't even know, but I'm sure I won't care for it. New stuff like Transatlantic and Porcupine Tree are supposed to be fabulous but are in fact awful. (Neil Jung is still trying to convert me.)

Camel are especially bad, I think. I tried with some a couple of years ago and it was about as flavourless as it gets. Which is particularly criminal when we're talking about a genre which is known for its experimentation and ambition.

Yeah, it's like prog easy listening. The lead guitar lines are vaguely thematic, like a drowsy, boring Shadows. It's professional!

70's prog (at least what we call prog today) is all over the place. Too many bands to throw them all under the bus. I get why people dislike prog(not me of course) but surely there is something for just about anyone.
dad rock not sure we get the term? is this just britpop? Is this just the 90's? I could list a ton of albums as dad rock including several favorite albums by most BCB members. I consider tons of 70's rock bands dad rock.
