Doesn't get much mention here. Had a difficult life, was a great Muscle Shoals guitarist, often called the white Otis Redding. Wrote some mean songs himself but didn't put out much recordings.
The end of October will see the release of this:
24 covers of songs he wrote.
01 Breakfast In Bed - Dusty Springfield
02 Down In Texas - Oscar Toney Jr.
03 Cover Me - Jackie Moore
04 A Little Bit Salty - Bobby Womack
05 Sure As Sin - Candi Staton
06 300 Pounds Of Hongry - Tony Joe White
07 Masquerade - Don Varner
08 Always David - The Sweet Inspirations
09 Poor Mary Has Drowned - Brick Wall
10 It's All Wrong But It's Alright - Eddie Hinton
11 Help Me Make It (Power Of A Woman's Love) - Mink Deville
12 Save The Children - Cher
13 Every Natural Thing - Aretha Franklin
14 If I Had Let You In - The Box Tops
15 Satisfaction Guaranteed - Judy White
16 Standing On The Mountain - Percy Sledge
17 I Got The Feeling - The Amazing Rhythm Aces
18 Home For The Summer - The Hourglass featuring Gregg & Duane Allman
19 Lay It On Me - Gwen McCrae
20 People In Love - Lou Johnson
21 Where You Come From - Bonnie Bramlett
22 Seventeen Year Old Girl - Mickey Buckins & The New Breed
23 Love Waits For No Man - Al Johnson
24 Where's Eddie - Lulu
I cannot recommend it high enough.

Re: Eddie Hinton
That we have been blessed us with soulful and uplifting artists like Eddie Hinton, and then double blessed with all those above who had the wherewithal to cover his songs proves that God exists and that God loves good music.
Question authority.

Saw these Australian brothers' band at Fuji and tell me he isn't channeling Eddie Hinton. Hinton was the first name that came to mind as I was listening.

He certainly was a wonderful guitarist and a talented writer; though looking through that list, there are a few songs like the Womack and the Box Tops that I kinda think are just ok - for me, you understand - and make me lean against splashing out for this set. Nothing against some of those tunes though - I love that Percy Sledge version of 'SotM', and Judy White's 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' is plain gorgeous.

Oh, definitely, Jimbo!
Their album was one of the great discoveries for me a while ago.

Oh yes, they were big fans. Patterson's dad probably played a lot of studio time with Hinton.

I don’t think his main value was as a singer...or even a guitarist.
It was that voice!

That's true too. I just got hold of a '79 radio broadcast where Hinton is backed by the Nighthawks.
Audio quality is OK, playing too but it's his voice that shines.

I meant to say that his main value wasn’t as a songwriter.
He was a really good one. But man...there aren’t many voices like his.

Despite much popularity there was something that didn't click for me with the Drive By Truckers. One thing is that the singer stinks.
