NME Top Singles of 1992
Yes, it's back by popular demand, what did the NME deem essential from 1992. Somehow they picked that limp load of old toss as number one.

3. Manic Street Preachers - Motorcycle Emptiness
4. Radiohead - Creep
5. R.E.M - Drive
6. House Of Pain - Jump Around
7. Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy - Television: The Drug Of The Nation
8. En Vogue - My Loving
9. L7 - Pretend We're Dead

Re: NME Top Singles of 1992
The top three are all great. Exciting times, one of the last nationwide firework displays we had in the UK.
The fact that Pulp's greatest song (and one of the most irresistible pop singles ever released ever anywhere ever) comes in at number eleven just shows the NME were losing their touch already.
So - from the long list:
11. Babies - Pulp
12. Straight To You - Nick Cave
14. Changes - Sugar
17. Free Range - The Fall
20. Old Red Eyes Is Back - The Beautiful South
23. Would I Lie To You - Charles & Eddie
32. Middle Of The Road - Denim
33. Remedy - The Black Crowes
34. Geek Love - Bang Bang Machine
35. I’m On My Way - Betty Boo
42. Summer Babe - Pavement
all fucking A-grade

A very underwhelming list; little to get excited about at all. 'Babies' is probably the pick of the litter.

Why the shock? I thought it was an acknowledged classic. It's certainly the best record in the long list.
Of the short list, I still like 'The Drowners' and 'Jump Around' (overplayed as it now is), but you can keep the rest.

The 90s are completely overrated, largely due to nostalgia.

Re: NME Top Singles of 1992
There was always something musically interesting going on in this country from Beatlemania in '63 until 1998 or so.
The 90s might look better today because nothing has happened since! but we still had plenty to be happy about in 1992.

It was an enjoyable time which I have fond memories of. Lots of good music, but little that was great..as the current 90s cup is proving. It was a fall in quality from the 80s.

Urgh. One of the most over-rated tracks of that era, G - their harmonies are ok, but almost everything else about it, from the song to the production, smacks of bland or worse.

That's an excellent single, though.

Best thing they ever did. The album's pretty good too.

Re: NME Top Singles of 1992
I can't see what anyone would find in "The Drowners", even by Suede standards it's a nothingness of a song, a crap Bowie impersonation over a T Rex demo. But anyway, it's a dreadful list, only "Babies" and "Didgeridoo" are of any kind of quality.

Oh, they jumped about to it when they were pissed-up students 25 years ago, I suppose. But it's the stupidest piece of crap this side of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.
